The operator trades as "Japan Experience," billing itself as "an unique experience," and runs out of Europe rather than the archipelago it sells: an address at 30 rue Sainte Anne in Paris, a UK line for inquiries. Useful to know going in, because it shapes what the house is good at.

At the top of the catalogue sits the Twilight Express Mizukaze, a first-class sleeper that, per its listing, leaves Kyoto Station and rolls through "rocky coastlines to lush mountains and green rice fields."

One honest note: the press material cites both 1981 and 1994 as its founding. A small untidiness for a house whose whole pitch is trustworthy local knowledge. Everything else points to a broad, rail-literate front door that knows the map of Japan cold.
