Denali National Park

Alaska

Six million acres of taiga and tundra under the Alaska Range, crossed by a single gravel road that private cars may drive only as far as the Savage River at Mile 15. Beyond that you ride the park's green transit buses, which let you off wherever it is safe, or you walk; in 2026 they turn around at East Fork, Mile 43, and full service to the far end of the road is expected to return in 2027.
