Zion National Park
Utah
A canyon the Virgin River has cut half a mile deep into cream, pink and red Navajo sandstone, walked on paved paths along the floor, up switchbacks to the rim, and upstream through the river itself. Every leg here sits inside the park, so each asks the entrance fee of $35 a car or $20 a person on foot (plus $100 a person for non-US residents); Angels Landing also needs a permit won by lottery, and the canyon road is shuttle-only from March to November.
