Deep in Aomori's snow country sits Lamp no Yado Aoni Onsen (青荷温泉), a ryokan that has made a philosophy out of what it refuses to install. Electricity was never wired in by design: the rooms, the hallways, the dining room, the baths, all lit by old oil lamps, and no wifi to speak of.
